A ThunderShirt Story
ThunderWorks’ founder, Phil Blizzard, had a dog named Dosi who was extremely frightened by thunderstorms and fireworks. Wanting to comfort Dosi, Phil did what most families do and consulted with veterinarians and dog trainers. Unfortunately, no one had a good solution. So, for many years Dosi (and her family) had to suffer though thunderstorms and Fourth of July fireworks. One day, a friend of the family recommended trying a snug wrap, like swaddling an infant. It sounded far-fetched, but nothing else had worked and it certainly couldn’t hurt to try. During one bad storm, they wrestled Dosi into an old t-shirt and used packing tape to create mild pressure. They were amazed – Dosi calmed almost instantly and laid down for the duration of the storm! ThunderShirt evolved from there, and has helped calm millions of dogs and cats around the world.

What is the difference between the different types of ThunderShirts?
While we have several different styles (Classic, Sport and Polo) and colors of ThunderShirts, they all work exactly the same. Each style of ThunderShirt is lightweight, machine-washable, and breathable, and they all help your dog to feel calmer during fireworks, thunderstorms, travel, vet visits, and more. They are all equally as effective, so you cannot go wrong with your choice.
ThunderShirt is available in 7 different sizes for all breeds of dogs. If a dog is in-between weights in its category, it’s usually best to go with the smaller size.

How it works
ThunderShirt applies gentle constant pressure to the torso, which can have a dramatic calming effect. The pressure releases a calming horomone like endorphins or oxytocin. ThunderShirt can reduce heart rates, stress hormone levels, and many other observable anxiety symptoms.
First, lay the ThunderShirt on your dog’s back and attach the neck straps loosely. Then, wrap the torso flaps around your dog’s chest. And, finally, adjust the top flap down for a snug and comfortable fit.
The ThunderShirt can be left on for extended periods of time. However, during the initial uses, confirm that there are no issues and check for signs of discomfort or irritation. Do not leave it on for more than 1-2 hours. Make sure to remove the ThunderShirt at least twice a day.
